DwR: News

AN AMAZING APRIL - May 14, 2008

Hi there, folks! I hope everyone has been having as much fun as we have this Spring! April was certainly an amazing month for us! Here is the skinny....

The first weekend, we played our favorite Olympia venue...the Eastside Club Tavern to another wonderful crowd! This show was streamed live on the internet thanks to Disco Dog! We'll be back for another round on Friday, June 27! We then headed down to Hood River for a second go round at Double Mountain Brewery. The place was packed to the gills for a super high energy show. Thanks to Chip Russell for taping one of the best live recordings of DwR to date! You can download this show at archive.org!

Next up, our annual Kayak Symposium show. A misprint in the paper led to a light turn out...but we still had a great time! This was one of the first local shows that folks got to hear our smoking fiddler, Julie Campbell. The following day, we headed into the mountains for a show at the Skagit River Resort. A beautiful place filled with beautiful people and more bunnies running around than we've ever seen! DwR was in rare form that night and had a great time "playing" with the audience!

The next weekend, we were one of several bands to play at Bellermine High School where our fiddle player, Julie Campbell teaches. A most surreal experience... being sandwiched between screaming rock bands and playing for a very enthusiastic crowd of teenagers! Due to sound issues, we ended up going completely acoustic and played right at the edge of the stage. This was a benefit to help build schools in Uganda!
The next night, Kim and Jason returned to their roots and played a most excellent duo show at the Ajax Cafe. Everyone in the room was in the zone that night and we had the best time we've ever had at the Ajax.

And the final week of April...we hit the road for four shows in Oregon! It began on a rainy afternoon at the OSU Agriculture Department farm...an event called the Hoo Haa! The clouds parted and the sun came out just in time for our set! It was a blast!!! Thanks to Future Roots (a really great Corvallis band) for sharing the stage with us.

The next show was at Sam Bond's Garage and was the BEST show with the BEST turn out we have ever had there! DwR was super tight and the crowd was with us from start to finish!

The following night, DwR played a concert at the beautiful new Civic Center in Drain. Seems that we broke the attendance record for the Drain Concert Series!!!! It was so great to see so many people! The folks in Drain are awesome and it was so cool to play a concert where they left the front of the house open for dancing. And some mighty fine dancing there was!!! And the show was flawless from start to finish!

We wrapped up the mini tour on the coast at the Landmark Bar in Yachats. The crowd was super energetic and the band was definitely "on" after playing several nights in a row. A perfect way to end a most glorious week! And thanks to Rick for the use of his beautiful home there!

In addition to all the wonderful shows, we had a most memorable week with our host family...Jim and Ellen Horton. When we weren't playing music, we were playing on their 131 acres... hiking, riding quads and hanging with all the animals! Of course with all this perfection there must be a glitch somewhere, right? Where there is yin there is yang? Well, one afternoon whilst riding quads...Ellen and our manager, Carol, decided to roll theirs! Ellen was fine, but Carol ended up in the hospital with a dislocated shoulder and a broken arm! Not exactly what Carol bargained for this trip! We all took care of her and continued to have a most amazing week! Thank you Jim and Ellen for everything!

We are already halfway into May...but we won't mention any news until next month's newsletter. Well, except for one thing....

Starting Friday May 16 and throughout the entire month...you can catch DwR on BIG NIGHT OUT...a variety show on the Seattle Channel. This was our first television experience and it was an absolute kick in the pants! We were the show opener (we played "Daisy") and were honored to be amongst so much incredible talent. Log on to seattlechannel.org for air dates and times!

Thanks for stopping by and reading the latest DwR happenings! We hope you all have a beautiful month and hope to see you out and about real soon!

Peace,

March Madness!!! - April 2, 2008

Hi there folks! Welcome to the Deadwood Revival News page. We've got lots to tell, so go grab yourself a cup of coffee or a beer or something.

March was a fantastic month for Deadwood Revival! It is obvious that Spring is in the air because folks were coming out of hibernation and we had some seriously kick butt crowds the entire month!

Here are some of the highlights...

Friday March 21...DwR rocked the Junction Tavern with a record breaking crowd! Cars were lined up down Hwy 101 and folks were "hiking" into the venue! This show was off the charts and DwR welcomed Julie Campbell on fiddle for the first time in their home town! She is definitely a keeper!!! Our friend, Strider warmed up the crowd once again with his amazing talent (He can sound just like Johnny Cash!) This was a great night for us and for the Junction!

Friday March 28, DwR along with Julie Campbell on the fiddle once again packed their favorite Seattle venue, Conor Byrne, with an opening set by Lincoln Crockett. If you have not heard Lincoln's solo stuff, we would recommend that you do so. He is seriously a force to be reckoned with! Check out his music at lincolncrockett.com. So, it was a special treat for us all when Lincoln joined DwR on the mandolin for the end of the night. He described it as being inside a "musical hot tub". It was this statement that inspired the "Hot Tub Jam". Ahhhh, bet you wish you were there to know what that is!

Then on Sat, March 29, DwR headed back to Guemes Island for a repeat performance at Anderson's General Store...and this time we had Julie on the fiddle! We thought it was full the last time...but this groovy restaurant/bar/convenience store was packed to the gills and we are looking forward to heading back there in the summer when we can play on the outside deck with LOTS MORE ROOM! Thanks again to Mike for joining us for a few tunes on the dobro! What a super fun evening!

From there, we all (meaning with Julie on that fiddle again) headed north to Nancy's Farm which in our opinion is the BEST house concert venue we have ever experienced! And this show too, was packed out...not a seat left in the house! We also had a special treat when Jeff Leffet joined us for a few tunes on the bones. Never seen or heard anything like it! Awesome! Thanks to Nancy, Jim and Evelyn for their kindness and for creating such a beautiful space for musicians to play. We'll be back there, for sure!!!

In other news, DwR has announced it's return to California in October! Yes folks, we are going on tour once again! We will be announcing all tour dates and times in the near future! So please...stay tuned!

We are looking forward to another fantastic month in April! We've got lots of great shows/festivals lined up for the rest of the Spring and the Summer including performances at Northwest Folklife, Willamette Valley Music Festival, DwR's television debut, the Tractor Tavern with the Clumsy Lovers and oh so many more!!! Be sure to visit our Calendar page for all upcoming dates!

Thanks for stopping by everyone and we look forward to seeing all of you soon!

Stay happy, healthy and peaceful!

Love,
Deadwood Revival

A fine February - March 12, 2008

Hi there folks! Thanks for stopping by the news page. Now that we are in control of our new website (which, by the way, we would LOVE
your feedback on) we will be keeping news and other info more up to date. We are still in the process of transferring everything over to the new site, so check back often as we are in the process of adding photos, reviews and other DwR info.

February started off with a bang at favorite Port Angeles watering hole, the Junction Tavern. DwR was in fine form that night and pulled out some surprising new and most unusual cover tunes. Also, after the show was over, those folks who stuck around got a treat as DwR unexpectedly launched into a third set of Dead tunes they used to play in their old band Tongue and Groove. It was a great night for all of us.

Next, DwR headed back to Olympia to rock the Eastside Club Tavern with Julie Campbell adding her fine fiddle playing in the mix. A big giant thank you to Jason (aka Disco Dog) for the live webcast that night and to Eric for taping the show. We very much appreciate all of their hard work. DwR delivered an extra special version of "The Valley and the Hill" that night knowing that their friend Pastor Tim was tuning in from Montana! We'll let you know next time one of our shows will be broadcast on the web so you can be sure an tell all your friends across the globe. Next Eastside show is on Friday, April 4 and Julie will be joining us once again on fiddle.

We then made our way over to Guemes Island for a first-time DwR show at Anderson's General Store and what a show it was! The sound was great, the band was "on", the crowd was very receptive and we all had a fantastic evening. We also had Guemes Island resident, Mike Gwost, join us on dobro for a few tunes at the the end of the show. Thanks, Mike! Before the night was over, we booked another show there for Sat, March 29. We are looking forward to seeing all of you Islanders again!

The following night, we headed back to the Peninsula for a private birthday party. (Bless you, Tom!) Now we would not usually include private parties in our news ...but one of the guests just so happened to be slide guitarist, Mychael from the Seattle band Diesel Trukkers and we wrapped up the evening with Mychael sitting in on a handful of tunes. Great fun! Thanks Mychael, we had a blast!

Next...DwR is hit the road for a 3 day stint in Oregon at end of the month. First stop...Bombs Away in Corvallis. We always enjoy seeing our OSU fans and thank them for finally moving the tables so folks could dance! Next, we played the Axe & Fiddle in Cottage Grove...a beautiful, classy venue and the sound was super fine that night. Folks there are always very kind and receptive and we look forward to going back...which by the way is on Friday, May 16. Our third and final stop was at the Grand Lodge in Forest Grove. Thanks to all of our friends who drove for miles to come see us there. We had a great time and playing at a McMenamin's is always a treat!

So March is underway, and we've got a nice variety of shows coming up. Check out the Calendar page for all dates and times.

Thanks again, everyone, for all of your love and support. Hope to see you soon!

Peace,
DwR
